Player Profile Series
This series showcases Arsenal’s current squad members, and we aim to give a different perspective about players and their development in this current squad. There isn’t any particular running order. New profile articles in the series will be added as and when they are published.
Alex Song
Arsenals most improved player of 2009, and the current lynch pin in the defensive midfield area. The journey hasn’t been a particularly smooth one, but very few would argue that Alex Song has indeed earned his full stripes as the 5 star general of the Arsenal midfield. The way he runs the defensive midfield positions and his support in our attacking play have been imperious as Song has found his consistency.
Vassiriki Abou Diaby
Fewer players have divided opinion amongst Arsenal supporters and football commentators alike. For all the talent and potential this young man has, injury has blighted his first few years at Arsenal following a horrific tackle that broke his ankle 4 months into his Arsenal career. Wenger, unlike many, has kept faith with Diaby and he is beginning to show promise and realise the potential that has always been seen in him. Alongside Alex Song and Cesc Fabregas amongst other talented midfielders, Diaby is slowly stamping his authority as one of the most influential midfielders in the Premiership.
