The motivation for this article series follows numerous discussions on this and other football blogs on the death of an endangered species. Not an animal or plant species of course, we’re talking about the brand of football that is quintessentially English.
Since the advent of the Premier League in 1992, the growth of foreign influence has been astronomical. We debate whether it’s still valid to consider the EPL typically English, yet it’s touted around the world as a global brand.
We highlight the impact of foreign players, managers and owners in the English game, as well as the reaction of the English football establishment who sometimes act like ’their football’ is about to become extinct as a result of the ’foreign’ invasion.
